2020 Congressional Art Competition (Please see Ms. Wilkinson or Mrs. Benoit)
2020 Congressional Art Competition
I am pleased to announce the 2020 Congressional Art Competition for high school students, grades 9 – 12. This competition affords students the opportunity to share their creative talents with the community and the country. The winning entry from each Congressional district will be displayed for one year in the United States Capitol. The overall winner will have the opportunity to attend the Congressional Art Competition Forum in Washington, DC, in June with Southwest Airlines providing airfare for the winner and one parent or guardian.
This year’s art competition will be judged by a panel of established artists and art teachers from around the 4th Congressional District. Also, we are establishing a theme of “Mississippi, the Beautiful.” Each student should use this theme to express what he or she sees as part of the beauty of our great state.
The deadline for submission is 5:00 P.M. on April 8th. The winners will be announced on April 22nd. Winners will be selected from the following categories: Drawing, Painting, Mixed Media, Photography, Collage, Computer Generated, Printing, Overall Winner, Overall Runner Up.
Attached you will find competition guidelines and the Student Information/Release Form that must be completed and submitted with each piece of art. We also must continue to comply with the size regulation mentioned on the attached guidelines in order for the winning piece to hang in the United States Capitol.
Please encourage students to take advantage of this great opportunity. I look forward to your school’s participation in the Congressional Art Competition. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Leslie Churchwell by email at Leslie.Churchwell@mail.house.gov or by phone at (228) 864-7670.
