Alaina Olsen attends Electric Cooperatives of Mississippi Youth Leadership Program

SPCHS Class of 2020 Member Alaina Olsen recently attended the Electric Cooperatives of Mississippi Youth Leadership Program in Jackson, Mississippi. She represented Coast Electric Power Association with three other students from Coastal Mississippi, including Caleb Bergmann, Jordan Calomese, and Mary Thames.

During the program, Alaina took part in a leadership workshop, enjoyed a first-hand look at our state government in action, sharpened her leadership skills, and heard presentations from government leaders, local business leaders and rural electric cooperative professionals. During her time spent at the State Capitol, she and her peers met with Rep. Greg Haney, Rep. Patricia Willis and Senator Philip Moran.

On the opportunity, she said, “The most interesting aspect of the experience was meeting students from all over the state and connecting so quickly with them. Everyone was from a different area or school in Mississippi, but we came together to work on some amazing plans for our communities. Now, when I make daily or big decisions, I think of how the friends I made there would approach it. On the second day, I learned a lot about teamwork as we participated in exercises with Elyon Ministries, and I find myself delegating and considering others more. I am very grateful for the advisors and for the board at Coast Electric for allowing me to grow in my leadership skills.”

Congratulations Alaina!
