Students in Mrs. Lawson’s Biology II classes recently participated in a lab to familiarize themselves with the Physician’s Desk Reference Guide and popular pharmaceuticals.
Members of the class broke off into groups, and each group was assigned a medication to research in the Physician’s Desk Reference. Medications researched include Augmentin, Lunesta, Percocet, and Concerta. The students had to research the following for each medication: brand name, generic name, description, indications and usage, contraindications (who should not take this medication), warnings, adverse reactions (side effects) and drug interactions (what medications should not be taken while on this particular medication). The students typed out their research reports and then presented them to the class.
