
Brookins Hired as Band Director
St. Patrick Catholic High School is proud to announce the hiring of Joseph Brookins Jr. as band director and an instructor in the school’s math department.
Brookins graduated from the University of South Alabama (USA) with a Bachelors in Music Education- Instrumental. He is a trumpet player and was taught by Dr. Peter Wood. While attending USA, Brookins performed in various ensembles playing trumpet and mellophone: Wind Ensemble, Symphony Band, Trumpet Ensemble, Azalea City Brass Quintet, Indian Ensemble, Jaguar Marching Band, and Jag Pep Band. Each of these ensembles was under the direction of Dr. Peter Wood, Dr. Jason Rinehart, and Dr. William Petersen.
Additionally, Brookins sang in the choir with Mobile Symphony Orchestra, under Scott Speck and Dr. Laura Moore, where he performed masterworks like Carmina Burana and Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony.
“Please join me in welcoming Mr. Brookins to the team of faculty here at St. Patrick. We are thrilled to have him lead our band program and teach in our math department for the 2021-22 school year, and I am very confident that he will be an asset to our Fighting Irish team,” said Principal Dr. Matt Buckley.
Locally, he has performed in several churches around the Mobile area for Christmas and Easter. He also performed in the Mobile Pops and with Joe Jefferson Playhouse.
Outside of school, Mr. Brookins loves spending quality time with his wife, Kayla, and their three pets (Lily, Gracie, and Weasley), along with reading and watching Marvel movies.
