Catchot selected to Lott Leadership Institute for Rising Ninth Graders

Congratulations to St. Patrick Catholic High School student Reece Catchot on his recent selection into the Lott Leadership Institute for Rising Ninth Graders. Catchot is one of 20 8th grade students from across the state accepted into the prestigious program.

This program is a partnership between the University of Mississippi’s Lott Leadership Institute and The University of Mississippi Division of Outreach. The program is designed to develop critical thinking and leadership skills in soon-to-be high school freshmen. Its aim is to cultivate and inspire honest, compassionate, and responsive leaders who will focus on responsibility and stewardship.

“I am honored to be selected,” Catchot said. “I know that they only accepted 20 students, so being one of those people is great. I hope to have the opportunity to learn what college is going to be like to better prepare myself for when the time comes.”

Students selected will take Problems in American Democracy, a course designed to give students a greater awareness of the issues and problems facing the United States today. Its emphasis is on analysis of issues, situations and problems with the goal of fostering positive appreciation and desired resolution. This year the program will be held virtually starting in June.
