Julia Hancock advances to National Merit Finalist

Senior Julia Hancock has advanced as a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship program.  Hancock is among 1% of high school seniors throughout the nation who have received this prestigious recognition.

Hancock will now compete with all other finalists for a National Merit Scholarship, corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship award, or college-sponsored Merit Scholarship award.  These vary from a one-time award to a renewable award for four years of undergraduate study. According to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation’s website, Finalists are chosen for these scholarships based upon “the Finalist’s academic record, information about the school’s curricula and grading system, two sets of test scores, the high school official’s written recommendation, information about the student’s activities and leadership, and the Finalist’s own essay.”
