Homecoming 2018 events and activities

We are excited to celebrate our annual Homecoming festivities beginning this weekend! The theme for Homecoming 2018 is “Second Star to the Right.” All St. Patrick students are encouraged to participate in the school-sponsored traditions and events of Homecoming Week in anticipation of the big game next Friday, September 14.

For many, Homecoming is a special occasion that involves evening activities that extend beyond the school-sponsored pep rally, football game, and dance. As such, we urge parents to communicate with their child about their expectations and values for non-school-sponsored activities. As a school community, we should all pledge to promote a safe and enjoyable Homecoming experience by establishing consistent, lawful expectations for all of our students.

Listed below are the traditions and events we have scheduled for Homecoming Week:

  • Saturday, September 8: Alumni Mass and Social – We hope to see all alumni at our Alumni Mass and Social on Saturday, September 8! Mass, celebrated by Father Dominic Pham from Sacred Heart Parish, will begin at 7 p.m. and the social will immediately follow.  Family and friends are welcome to attend, and childcare will be provided. This event is sponsored by the SPCHS Alumni Association and is open to all alumni, even those who are not currently members of the Association. There is no fee to attend, and Bishop Kihneman has approved for this Vigil Mass to count as your Sunday obligation.

  • Monday, September 10: Teacher vs. Student Basketball Game – Starting at 2:30 p.m., the St. Patrick faculty will take on selected students from each grade level in competition in our second annual Homecoming Teacher vs. Student Basketball Game.  With excitement on the court, will St. Patrick students defeat their teachers in a game of basketball? Or will our teachers win with their experience and wit? This event is open to all St. Patrick students and parents, and is free to attend.

  • Tuesday, September 11: Irish Idol – Talented St. Patrick students will perform in an “American Idol” style variety show beginning at 9:40 a.m. in the cafeteria. Tickets are $2.00. If students do not wish to attend the talent show, they may go to the library during this time.

  • Wednesday, September 12: Powder Puff Football and Blackout Pep Rally – Students and parents are invited join us at the football stadium and gym for these events beginning at 6:30 p.m. The junior girls will compete against the senior girls in the annual powder puff football game at the stadium followed by a pep rally in the gym for the entire student body.

  • Thursday, September 13: Homecoming Mass and Classic Luncheon – Our Homecoming Mass will begin at 9:40 a.m.  Also, for the annual St. Patrick Classic Luncheon, a special lunch will be served in the cafeteria today in honor of Homecoming Week.  Lunch is on Mr. Buckley today for all students – and it’s sure to be a treat!

  • Friday, September 14: Homecoming Family Picnic, Pep Rally, Tailgate, and Football Game – Students will be dismissed to the courtyard at 1:00 p.m. for the Homecoming Picnic Lunch with their families.  Parents should arrive via the north or south gates anytime between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. Parents may bring food, lawn chairs, blankets, and tents.  Mrs. Collier and Mrs. Edwards will be posted at the courtyard gates to greet and sign parents in and out. The front office will be closed beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Friday.  Families may eat in the courtyard or cafeteria, and we are asking families of students in grades 10-12 to use the north courtyard, and families of students in grades 7-9 to use the south courtyard. Following the picnic, the gym will open at 2:00 p.m. for the Homecoming Pep Rally. We will be hosting a pre-game Homecoming Tailgate starting at 5:30 p.m.  Stop by and enjoy some food, fun, and fellowship prior to the big game. The Fighting Irish varsity football team will take the field at 7:00 p.m. against Sacred Heart High School, and the 2018 Homecoming Court will be presented during halftime.

  • Saturday, September 15: Homecoming Dance – Students in grades 9-12 may attend the dance being held at the D’Iberville Community Club from 8:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m.  Tickets may be pre-purchased online or in the main office for $20; tickets will also be sold at the door for $25.  Attire for the dance is dressy dresses or pant suits for young ladies and a suit with a tie for young men. The Homecoming Court will be presented at 8:30 p.m. at the dance.

The St. Patrick student council has planned the following themes for each day of the “Second Star to the Right” themed homecoming week. Beginning Monday, September 10, all students may be creative and dress within the theme each day or they may wear their school uniform. Please refer to the student handbook for additional information regarding free dress days. All students should dress modestly with proper closed-toe shoes.

  • Monday is the Start of it All: To kick off our Peter Pan-themed week, we’ll honor the brilliant mind that started it all: Walt Disney.  Dress up as your favorite Disney character or movie and let the fun begin!

  • Tuesday is Conquest of the Seas: We’ll set sail for Neverland!  Wear your favorite pirate or mermaid attire as we join Captain Hook on an adventure on the seas of this fantasy land!

  • Wednesday is Never Gonna Grow Up: The Lost Boys will never grow up, and neither will we.  Let your childhood inspire your outfit and dress like you have entered Neverland and never want to grow up!

  • Thursday is Royals for a Day: Embrace the elegance of the kings and queens of the land where Peter Pan is set: London, England. Wear your best church clothes as we celebrate mass followed by a special meal served during lunch. Young ladies should wear modest dresses (no more than three inches above the knee) or dressy pant suits. Young men should dress in a coat and tie with dress slacks.  Students may wear “royal hats” today; however, hats will need to be removed during mass. Otherwise, students should be in full uniform. Remember, the royals have a very strict and modest dress code, and we expect our St. Patrick Royals to abide by these rules as well!

  • Show your Irish Pride on Friday: Wear St. Patrick colors of navy, green, and gold. Also, students may wear St. Patrick t-shirts or Homecoming t-shirts.

We are looking forward to a great week! For questions regarding Homecoming or other events, please contact a member of our team.

Let’s make it a great week! Go Irish!
