JV and Varsity Volleyball vs. Long Beach

The JV and Varsity St. Patrick Lady Irish Volleyball Teams fought hard against the Long Beach Lady Bearcats on Tuesday evening. Although unable to pull out the win, the Lady Irish engaged in skillful rallies and gave 110% the entire night.

The Junior Varsity Lady Irish ended their two sets with scores of (9-25) and (5-25), respectively; the Varsity Lady Irish brought out scores of (16-25), (18-25), and (23-25) in their three sets, respectively.

Varsity player and Senior Shannon Kirkpatrick, although currently recovering from an injury and unable to play, attended the game to support her Lady Irish. “The girls communicated well and worked together as a team,” said Kirkpatrick about the team’s performance that night. “It’s only the beginning of the season, so things can only get better from here!”

“I think the girls really pushed themselves and played their best,” said JV/Varsity player and Junior Lizzie Simmons about the game. Simmons plays as the Libero for the JV team. The Libero wears a different color jersey from the rest of the team. She is restricted from attacking the ball when it is above net height and does not serve, but she may replace any back-row player without notifying the officials. Senior Adesyn Hall serves as the Libero for the Varsity team.

Despite the Lady Irish having lost on Tuesday, this is just the beginning of what is going to be one exciting season. Varsity player and Senior Mary Beth Tubb expresses it perfectly:  “Even though we fell a little short tonight, each and every one of us on the court played to the best of our ability. I am proud of my team and the progress we make with each week that passes. I’m excited to see what the future holds for us.” Be sure to support the Lady Irish Volleyball Team this season by attending a game – they look forward to seeing you there!
