Key Club to host “Tricks for Treats” pet food drive to be held on Friday

This Friday, October 28, the St. Patrick Key Club will be sponsoring their annual “Tricks for Treats” pet food drive. The drive will benefit our local animal shelter, The Humane Society of South Mississippi. The humane society houses over 300 homeless pets each day and nearly 8,000 each year. To sustain the magnitude of their services, they require aid and donations from the surrounding community.

The Human Society of South Mississippi does not receive any local, state, or federal funding; therefore, they rely on the generosity of our community to provide high quality services and compassion to every animal while they reside there.

For the drive, students may bring in items for dog care, cat care, or general shelter needs. These items include: wet dog food and cat food, stainless steel food bowls, cat litter, paper towels, dawn dishwashing liquid, dog and cat shampoo, etc. A full, more detailed list of the shelter’s needs can be found at on the their website (https://hssm.org/how-you-can-help/needs-list/).

Students are encouraged to donate to Mississippi’s largest animal welfare organization by participating in the Key Club’s drive. Although no service hours are being offered for the event, the St. Patrick community is largely encouraged to take part in the drive. Students are urged not only engage in the school’s humane society events but look into volunteering for future events with the organization.

“Helping out our local shelters is a great thing to do… I encourage students to participate because it is the right thing to do!” explained Key Club President Cassidy Fountain.
