Lady Irish Volleyball Team celebrates season at banquet

The Lady Irish Volleyball Team held its end-of-season banquet on Wednesday, November 8, with parents and guests in attendance. The banquet celebrates all the hard work and dedication from the players during the season. For many athletes, this may just be an end of one season out of many that they still have ahead of them. For the seniors, this moment symbolizes an end to one chapter and the beginning of another as they soon head out on their future endeavors.

Sophomore Kelsey Descher said, “It was an emotional night for everyone, not just the seniors. Looking back at all the memories, jokes, and endless amounts of running, I wouldn’t have traded them for the world, and I know the seniors will go on to accomplish great things next year.”

Many athletes were recognized specifically for their outstanding performance and leadership this season. Annie Broussard received most valuable player for the junior varsity team, and Hallie Ladner received this award for the varsity team. Makenzie Stenum received the offensive player of the year, and Hope Williams received the defensive side. Captain Carly Loftis received the Fighting Irish award, presented to the player who has shown the most leadership, sportsmanship, and overall contribution to the whole team.

Assistant Coach Dee Blakeney spoke on the season, saying, “I really enjoyed working with the girls this season, and they were always a joy to have in practice. Some days were harder than others, as they can tell you, but they were willing to give their hard work and dedication, and that is what makes a true athlete.”
