Local Knights of Columbus help St. Patrick basketball team

The St. Patrick Catholic High School boys’ varsity basketball team was invited to attend the Maui Invitational Tournament, which will be held in December of this year.  A national tournament will be a first for the boys’ basketball team.  The team has been working to raise funds for their trip for several months, and one of their fundraisers includes a basketball training camp for elementary students.

On Thursday, September 4, the team was presented a check for three hundred and fifty dollars by Bill Haas and Dave Russell of the Knights of Columbus (Father Paul Gillis) Council 11654. The two men left some encouraging words on behalf of the council:

“On behalf of the Knights of Columbus, Father Paul Gillis, Council 11654, we would like to present you and your team with this additional check for $350.00.  Hopefully this will encourage other Knights of Columbus Chapters within the state of Mississippi, especially the Mississippi Gulf Coast to match and surpass this monetary gift we are presenting.  We look forward to you joining us at our annual St. Francis Xavier Anniversary and Knights of Columbus Free Throw Contest, Saturday, September 13, at 1026 E. Central Ave, Hwy. 26 East, Wiggins, MS.  We wish you the best of luck both on and off the basketball court.  The great education you are getting at St. Patrick High School is preparing you well to become future leaders within your community and members of the KC’s.”
