National Junior Honor Society makes strides against breast cancer

On Saturday, October 20, students from the St. Patrick Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on the Biloxi Town Green. The Chapter takes part in the walk every year, and the crowd size and participants continue to grow annually.

Dr. Casey, the club sponsor, spoke on her first event with the Society, saying, “We had a great turnout, especially from the new members. It makes me very excited for the abilities and talents they’ll bring to NJHS over the next year or two and what we can accomplish.”

Many events take place at the Town Green before the walk, and businesses line the street with free food and merchandise for walkers. The main event is found on the stage, where survivors share their diverse stories with the hope of reaching out to others and advocating for the cause.

The walk route takes participants through downtown Biloxi to the IP Casino and back, and groups are found on the sides of the streets along the way cheering people on and passing out water and fruit. Crowds were welcomed at the end of the walk with rallies of people as everyone wrapped up the walk together.
