Physics Egg Drop
Photos by Hannah Janus
As part of physics class, Mrs. Worrel’s students are challenged to protect an object in a confined space for a 10 meter drop. The object will be a large raw egg, protected within a space of 15 cm by 15 cm by 15 cm. Students become very creative in their design and discharge their own package from the top of the stadium, a 10 m drop.
The students then calculate the velocity, acceleration, momentum, impulse, and trajectory using Newton’s Laws of Gravity. Mrs. Worrel provided a time of fall and horizontal distance upon impact. Each student had to retrieve their egg to be graded as an intact object after the fall.
