Pisciotta named Gulfport Exchange Club student of the month
Laurie Pisciotta, a senior at St. Patrick, was nominated for a special scholarship opportunity sponsored by the Gulfport Exchange Club, an service club within the city of Gulfport that focuses on students and children. She was nominated by someone at St. Patrick based on her character and academic achievement and was picked as the Gulfport Exchange Club student of the month for February which enabled her to participate in this adventure. This opportunity opens up many doors for Pisciotta including gaining money for her education and also going onto the state level within the program.
On February 7, Pisciotta spent some of her day reading an essay to the Exchange Club at the Gulfport Yacht Club to show the club what she thinks about community. She was instructed to write an essay on inspiring communities to become a better place. Pisciotta chose to write about the special process of how families create hard-working adults who in turn create innovative leaders that add to different communities within the world. She has a chance to move on to the state level and even the national level; all of these levels award students prizes to go towards their education if they succeed, prizes that range from $100 to $10,000.
Pisciotta finds out at the end of April whether she will proceed to the state level, but for now she’s very optimistic and thankful. “I really appreciate the opportunity to make connections in our community and to inspire other local leaders to be the best they can be,” Pisciotta stated. This creates a very unique opportunity for a very deserving student, and it will hopefully continue to provide her with more opportunities in the weeks to come.
