Robotics Team Tempest hosts FIRST LEGO League Tournament

Last weekend, on December 8 and 9, the St. Patrick Robotics Team Tempest hosted the FIRST  LEGO League competition. The robotics members set up for the competition and have spent a lot of time in preparation for the event. There were two competitions with two separate themes, Lighthouse and Schooner. The members of the St. Patrick robotics team judged the robots in the competition based on the provided rubric, which consists of certain tasks that each robot must complete.

Robotics Vice President, Todd Fayard, explains, “It was a fun weekend. One of my favorite things about the school is that we are the only place in the state that holds two Lego League competitions on the same day. My favorite robot was one that completed every task on the challenge table. The hardest part about building these robots is using the coding, and all of the teams this weekend did a fantastic job. It’s impressive how the junior high teams are able to gain a basic understanding of coding language at their young age. It gives them a good head start in the engineering field if this is an area they wish to pursue.”
