SPCHS Class of 2022 members graduate from Biloxi Chamber’s Junior Leadership Program
Congratulations to Joseph Agler, Laney Barton, Grace Belk, Megan Marie, Joelle Smith and Victoria Trosclair for graduating from the Biloxi Chamber of Commerce 2019 Junior Leadership Biloxi Class on Wednesday, January 30!
Each student attended after-school sessions on several topics, including: Manners & Etiquette, Military Awareness, Business in Biloxi, Cultural Diversity, Preparing for Success and Medical & City Government. Participants were chosen, based upon the information completed in the application, by an anonymous selection committee. They participate in a variety of community activities and reflect the diversity of the student body.
Participant Megan Marie said, “The most interesting part of the program to me was the speakers. We had representatives from different colleges such as Mississippi State University, University of Southern Mississippi, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and Ole Miss. We also had Biloxi City Council representatives come talk to us and workers from Merit Health. Windy Swetman spoke to us at our graduation, and I enjoyed what they had to teach us.” She continues, “I plan to strengthen my leadership skills by stepping up to take action in my school and in other activities, such as participating more in the Ambassadors program.”
Victoria Trosclair added, “The whole program was very interesting, but my favorite part was when we went to the hospital. That was my favorite part because when I go to college, I want to pursue [a career] in the medical field. We can start making our resumes, using our email etiquette for certain situations, know how to start a conversation, and know how to dress when we go on interviews and special events.”
I thought that the most interesting part of this program was being able to sit in a room with like-minded students my age and learn about things that will be vital for our success in the future. Out of the things we learned, I can currently put into action the critiques on writing a resume and preparing for applying for jobs as well as tips on becoming a good leader in my community. I plan to continue to strengthen my leadership skills by taking opportunities to be in a leadership position in my school and community. – Grace Belk
