St. Patrick hosts Diocesan Reading Fair

On Wednesday, December 3, 2015, the Biloxi’s Catholic Diocese Reading Fair was held in the St. Patrick gym.  These children that participated in the reading fair at St. Patrick were all winners at their elementary school or high school.  Students came from Holy Trinity Elementary, Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Elementary, Our Lady Academy Elementary, Our Lady of Fatima Elementary, Resurrection Catholic Elementary, Resurrection High School, Sacred Heart Elementary, Sacred Heart High School, St. Alphonsus Elementary, St. Charles Borromeo Elementary, St. James Elementary, and St. Vincent de Paul Elementary to compete in the reading fair.  The contestants were judged based on their creativity, understanding of the book, and requirements.

There are sixteen students who won first place at the Diocese Reading Fair and will continue to compete in Jackson at the State Reading Fair.

Mahi Khemka from Sacred Heart won in the Divison A – Kindergarten Individual category.  In the Division B – 1st Grade Individual category, Caprie Wooden from Nativity came in first place.  Lisa Jenkins from Sacred Heart d’Iberville was the Division C – 2nd Grade Individual category winner.  From St. James, Cianna Rivera won first in the Division D – 3rd Grade Individual category.  In the Division E – Grades 4th through 5th Individual category, Landon Baxter from Nativity won first place.  Priscilla Foster from Nativity won first place in the Division F – Grades 6th through 8th Individual category.  From Resurrection Middle/High School, in Division G – Grades 9th through 12th category, Paul Frye won first place.  In the Division H – Grades 3rd through 5th Non-Fiction category, Cambryn Alise from Our Lady of Fatima won first place.  In the Division I – Grades 6th through 8th Non-Fiction, Connor Sutton from St. Patrick won first place.  Division K – Group Pre-K through 2nd category winners were Mary Michael Miller and Millie O’Brien from Resurrection Catholic Elementary.  Sarah Michael Hans and Amelia Rose from Resurrection Catholic Elementary won the Division L – Group/ Family 3rd through 5th category.  Gracyn Yelverton and Ann Lauren Schmidt from Our Lady of Fatima won the Division M – Group/Family 6th through 8th category.
