St. Patrick Nominates Leatherman and Roth for 2021 Lindy Callahan Award
Two St. Patrick Catholic High School seniors are vying for the Lindy Callahan Award. The school nominated Isabel Leatherman ’21 and Andrew Roth ’21 after careful consideration by the faculty and administration.
“On behalf of the administration, faculty, and staff of St. Patrick Catholic High School, we are proud to nominate Isabel Leatherman and Drew Roth for the 2021 Lindy Callahan Scholar-Athlete Scholarship sponsored by the Mississippi High School Activities Association. Isabel and Drew have achieved excellence both in the classroom and on the court, course, and field; we remain extremely proud of their dedication, hard work, and achievements, and we look forward to them representing our great school on a state level,” said St. Patrick Principal Dr. Matt Buckley.
Sixteen seniors from across the state will be announced as Lindy Callahan Scholar-Athletes for the Class of 2021 next month. The honorees — one boy and one girl from each of the MHSAA’s eight geographical districts — are chosen for their academic accomplishments as well as their participation in high school athletics and extracurricular activities. Should one or both of these students win the award, each winner will receive a $1,500 college scholarship through the support of MHSAA partners.
The awards are to honor Lindy Callahan, a longtime athletic director and coach at Gulfport High School and a six-time Hall of Fame inductee.
Leatherman participates in cross country and track and field and is a member of the National Honor Society, Interact Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Students for Life, Campus Ministry, Mu Alpha Theta, Science Honor Society, and English Honor Society. She attends St. James Catholic Church.
“Being a nominee is an incredible honor to me because it reflects my efforts through the years to balance rigorous academics and athletics,” said Leatherman.
Roth participates in basketball and baseball at St. Patrick. Additionally, he is a member of Students for Life, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Science Honor Society, Student Council, English Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Interact Club.
“Being the nominee is a great honor. I hope to represent my class and school well,” said Roth.
“These two exceptional student-athletes represent the very best we have at St. Patrick Catholic High School. Not only are they leaders on the field, but in the classroom as well. I am proud of Isabel and Drew for their accomplishments, and believe they are excellent representatives of St. Patrick High School for this prestigious award,” said Athletic Director Trey Bailey.
