St. Patrick participates in Pennies for Patients service fundraiser to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

This month, St. Patrick will be participating in the annual Pennies for Patients fundraiser. Pennies for Patients is a three week long fundraiser sponsored by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society; its aim is to get students involved in funding cancer research. Pennies for Patients is a part of the LLS Student Series, and since its creation, more than 13 million students and 850,000 educators in 27,000 schools across the U.S. participate annually. Since its beginning, students have raised more than $315 million to fund breakthrough therapies and patient services, and more than $26 million in 2015-2016 alone. This year, the society is aiming to raise even more money, and St. Patrick hopes to be a contributing force.

The fundraiser will be sponsored by the St. Patrick Student Council. Each classroom will receive a Pennies for Patients donation box in which students will donate their change. Students will also be provided with a small donation box to take home to their families and neighbors, as well as the ability to create their own online donation page. To encourage the school’s participation, there will be a competition between first period classes. The first period class who raises the most money will be awarded a lunch of Olive Garden Catering.  Each first period classroom will have its own online donation page so that family and friends of St. Patrick can choose to give to a specific classroom or teacher by using the search option on the left of the school’s donation page. The school’s donation site can be accessed through the following link:

The following prizes are available for students who create individual online pages:

Students raising funds on their individual online giving page may earn:

$25   –   Blood Cancer Awareness Tattoo

$50   –   “I am Saving Lives” Wristband

$100 –   Student Series Glow in the Dark T-Shirt

$250 –   Entered into a drawing to win a Beats Speaker

$500 –   Letter of Recommendation from LLS Board of Trustees

So far, the donations have been successful, but the fundraiser will continue over the next two weeks. This year, we hope to exceed last year’s donation amount of $1,100 and reach our goal of $2,017.
