St. Patrick Student Nicole Summersell Accepts YMCA of South Alabama Touchdown Student Scholarship

St. Patrick Catholic High School Senior Nicole Summersell was awarded a YMCA of South Alabama Touchdown Student Scholarship at this year’s 2017 Gridiron Gala. The event took place on Tuesday, October 24, at Mobile’s downtown historic Battle House Renaissance Mobile Hotel & Spa. The feature keynote address was given by Eli Gold. Since 1988, Gold has served as the radio play-by-play of the University of Alabama. He is now the longest tenured play-by-play voice in the Southeastern Conference.

Summersell penned an award-winning essay regarding youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. In receiving the award, Summersell said, “It is such an honor to be awarded this scholarship from the YMCA of South Alabama during the third annual Gridiron Gala. With this scholarship, I plan on putting it toward my goal of becoming an elementary school teacher. This means a lot to me because it’s coming from an organization that promotes Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility. I look forward to helping the community grow by helping kids enable their full potential.”
