St. Patrick to host LEGO Tournament Saturday, Dec. 2

St. Patrick Catholic High School will host the Coast Regional LEGO Qualifying Tournament on Saturday, starting at 8 a.m. Two tournaments will run simultaneously due to the amount of teams participating, the Lighthouse Regional and the Schooner Regional Qualifying tournaments. The theme this year is Hydrodynamics.

Currently, 12 teams are registered for each tournament, and a total of 24 teams will participate. More than 500 visitors, including participants, volunteers and families, are anticipated to be on campus. Teams are from Hattiesburg, Oak Grove, Sumrall, Pass Christian, Biloxi Jr. High and several other elementary schools.

Partner elementary schools will also participate, with teams from St. Alphonsus, Nativity BVM and St. James. St. Patrick Robotics Team Tempest members mentor these students in programming and creating projects throughout the year.

Teams are tasked with creating projects to find ways to improve water quality in our communities and are judged on robot design and on Core Values. Core Values are areas in which teams learn more than how to program and create a robot, including teamwork and cooperation.
