
Swim Team Clinches 2nd at State Championship
BILOXI, Miss.- St. Patrick Catholic High School is proud to announce that the men’s and women’s swim teams placed second in the Class I division at the State Championship swim meet in Tuleo, Mississippi.
The women’s team held a first place point position for the majority of the meet, falling short towards the end of the meet due to not having as many swimmers participating as the other team. The women’s team placed 16 points behind the first place team.
Some highlights for the women’s are as followed:
Abbie Adams: swam the 50 Freestyle placing in the top 8 during prelims and landing a 6th place spot in the finals with a time of 28.64. She also swam the 100 Breastroke placing 11th with a time of 1:25.84.
Ramona DiNardo: Swam the 500 Freestyle placing 9th overall with a time of 6:33.54 she also swam the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:15.91 also place 9th 1:
Natalie Gordon: A St. Patrick top scorers for the girls. Swam the 50 Freestyle placing 1st overall with a time of 25.46 in the finals and placed 1st for her 200 freestyle in the finals with a time of 2.05.32
Laina Seal: another one of St. Patrick’s top scorers placing 1st in the 200 IM with a time of 2:18.65 and also placing 1st in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 55.28
Madayln Smith: The only senior girl swam the 100 Butterfly placing 13th with a time of 1:28.02 Sophia Sinopoli: swam the 100 Breaststroke placing 13th with a time of 1:28.88 Annabelle Tarrant: our 3rd top scorer for the girls Swam the 500 Freestyle placing 2nd overall in the finals with a new best time of 5:41.14. She also swam the 100 Breaststroke placing 5th with a time of 1:17.40
Courtney Van Aller: Swam the 100 Backstroke placing 10th with a time of 1:15.74. She also placed 10th in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 1:05.95
A special recognition to Sophia Valetta who did not participate in any individual events but swam in the girls 200 Freestyle Relay for both Prelims and Finals. During both sessions she was able to achieve new personal best swims during the relays.
St. Patrick had three relays swim at state, the girls 200 Medley relay consisting of: Natalie Gordon, Annabelle Tarrant, Laina Seal and Abbie Adams was able to place 1st overall with a new best time of 1:58.78
The St. Patrick 200 Free relay consisting of Abbie Adams, Sophia Valetta, Madalyn Smith(for Prelims), Courtney Van Aller(for finals), and Ramona Dinardo placed 6th overall with a time of 1:57.07. The 400 Free relay Consisting of Natalie Gordon, Annabelle Tarrant, Ramona Dinardo, and Laina Seal placed 1st overall with a time of 3:29.86
Highlights for the men’s side include:
Matthew Gordon: a top scorer placing 1st in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 55.64 during finals and the 100 Freestyle placing 2nd with a time of 49.59.
Greyson Thibodeaux: the 2nd top scorer placed 1st overall in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 56.18 in finals and placed 3rd in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:52.41.
Reece Catchot: The final top scorer for the boys placed 1st overall for the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.03 and placed 2nd overall for the 500 Free with a time of 5:12.60
Caston Mestayer: The only senior boy placed 6th overall in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:59.71
Johnny Chatelain: Swam the 100 Freestyle placing 10th overall with a time of 59.51 and the 100 Breaststroke placing 11th overall with a time of 1:18.47
Julian Baker: Swam the 50 Freestyle placing 14th overall with a time of 26.51 and the 100 Breaststroke placing 10th with a time of 1:15.76
Ian Snyder: Swam the 100 Butterfly placing 12th with a time of 1:12.87
Tate Bartgis: Swam the 50 Free seeding 8th in the finals with a time of 25.29 and the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:44.68 seeding 5th for finals.
The men’s relays did the 200 Medley consisting of Matthew Gordon, Reece Catchot, Greyson Thibodeaux, and Caston Mestayer placed 2nd in finals with a time of 1:46.90. The 200 Free Relay consisting of Tate Bartgis (for Prelims) Julian Baker (for finals), Johnny Chatelain, Ian Snyder, and Caston Mestayer placed 6th overall with a time of 1:45.70 and finally our boys 400 free relay with Greyson Thibodeaux, Reece Catchot, Caston Mestayer and Matthew Gordon placed 1st overall with a finals time of 3:29.86 a personal best for the boys!
