The St. Patrick Youth Legislature kicks off the year with its first meeting
On Wednesday, October 3, the St. Patrick Catholic High School Youth Legislature held its first meeting of the year. The meeting took place in Mrs. Mays’ room and was held to discuss the club’s events for the year.
The first meeting was very successful, as many returning and new students attended in the interest meeting. The Youth Legislature will continue to meet frequently throughout the year until its trip to the Mississippi Capitol.
The club gives students an opportunity to get involved and experience in their state government. The trip to Jackson is to allow the students to get a hands-on experience of crafting a bill of their own and contributing to modern politics within their government.
“As a member of Youth Legislature, I have been able to get an inside view in my government. Students usually don’t get chances to participate in government beyond history classes and I enjoy being able to get a first-hand account. I’m currently thinking about pursuing a career within the area of law, and Youth Legislature has helped me to find out about careers that I can pursue.” — Clayton Stoddard, SPCHS junior and devoted Youth Legislature member
