This Week at St. Patrick – Week of September 19

Good evening St. Patrick Students, Faculty, Parents, and Staff!

We are proud to announce that three students have been named a 2023 National Merit Semifinalist; Thomas Owen, Caleb Powell and Juliana Sabagh. National Merit Semifinalists represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors.  Read more at this link.

Thomas, Caleb and Juliana have excelled academically during their time here at St. Patrick, and I am confident that each will continue to excel and make us exceptionally proud. Job well done!

We are excited to celebrate this year’s Homecoming festivities on September 26 through October 1!  See my email outlining all the events and activities we have planned at this link.

Let’s make it a great week at St. Patrick!

Go Irish!
Dr. Matt Buckley
Principal

1 John 4:16: We know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.

How do you know God is at home in your heart? You know when you are doing loving things to bless the lives of others! Just as we trust and rely on God’s constant love for us, our brothers and sisters in Christ need love demonstrated to them, too!

Loving God and Almighty Father, fill me with your Spirit so I can be more loving to my family, my friends, and those whom you place in my path so they can learn about Jesus and his love. In the name of my gracious Savior I pray. Amen.

Welcome to another fantastic week at St. Patrick Catholic High School!  As we begin this week, we are already one-third of the way through the first semester of this school year, so please do not hesitate to keep in communication with your child’s teachers if you have any concerns or questions.  The teachers are required to administer a minimum of 18 minor grades and a minimum of 9 major grades by the end of the semester, so as of now, you should see about 3 major grades and 6 minor grades for each of your child’s courses.

Progress reports were emailed out to each of you this past Friday. This represents an updated average for each of your child’s courses. (Keep in mind, you can always access your child’s grades in Canvas in real time.) If you have any concerns about what you are seeing please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher for that respective class.

Also, now that you have received your student’s progress report, please take the time to talk to them about their successes as well as where they may be falling short of their goals/potential.  Encourage them to make some adjustments in how they complete homework, study for assessments, manage time, etc.  This is a wonderful opportunity to see how the first six weeks have gone and adjust before the semester gets too far underway.  Get your child’s teacher involved as well.  They might be able to give some helpful suggestions for how to improve in their course.

As your child continues to navigate Canvas, please continue to encourage them to use the Calendar feature to manage time and plan according to due dates and test dates for assessments.

Our fall teams and activities are continuing their successful seasons!

On Monday, we have a full slate of home games, with both Junior High Volleyball and Junior Varsity Football playing Magnolia and Pass Christian, respectively. We also have Robotics, and the French and Spanish Honor Societies with meetings on this day.

Tuesday, our Junior Varsity and Varsity Volleyball team travels to OLA for a pivotal district match. If you get a chance, please go over to Bay St. Louis and support Coach Blakeney and the team! Student Council and Quiz Bowl team have meetings.

Junior High Volleyball will be away on Wednesday at Bayou View, and National Honor Society and Interact Club will hold meetings on this day as well.

On Thursday, Junior High Football will be at home versus Creekbend, and our Junior Varsity and Varsity Volleyball teams will host Perry Central. National Junior Honor Society, MathCounts, Arts and Crafts, Students for Life, and Mock Trial all have meetings at various points in the day. We will also have our Spelling Bee on Thursday, so make sure to listen to the announcements for information regarding this!

Friday, we have a Science Honor Society Meeting, as well as a Film Club Meeting.

Congratulations to our August Students of the Month. Each month, all members of our faculty and staff are invited to vote for two students from each grade to be awarded Student of the Month. The two students from each grade who receive the most votes from our faculty and staff are presented this award each month.

What you do matters! Be intentional in all of your actions- from prayer to schoolwork to interactions with friends. A person of character will be intentional not just in his or her words, but in his or her actions as well. Be a person of character.

Thank you to all of you who have sold raffle tickets so far! We are excited about our 2022-23 Luck of the Irish Raffle presented by C.F. Gollott & Son, our school-wide fall fundraiser! The Luck of the Irish Raffle supports all of our athletic teams and student activities at St. Patrick.

Our goal for the 2022-23 school year is to raise $150,000 through the Luck of the Irish Raffle. To accomplish this goal, we are counting on each student to sell at least 1 booklet of tickets (10 total tickets). When you sell a booklet, your hard work provides resources for nearly 50 different programs at St. Patrick.

Every student and staff member who sells a booklet of tickets will be allowed to dress in spirit wear (St. Patrick shirt, jeans, and any closed-toe shoes) every Friday throughout the school year.

Let’s keep selling! Tickets are $20 each, and a lucky $1,000 winner will be drawn each month from October through May.  Each month, the winning ticket remains in the drawing, so those who purchase tickets have a chance to win up to $10,000.  Our first drawing will be Friday, October 7, so get your tickets turned in to the front office by October 5 so they will be included in the first drawing.  Tickets may also be purchased online at stpatrickhighschool.net/irishraffle.  If you need additional tickets to sell, please give us a call or stop by the office.
