Tyler signs softball scholarship with Alcorn State

St. Patrick senior Victoria Tyler signed a softball scholarship with Alcorn State this afternoon in front of teammates, family, and friends.

Tyler’s ceremony in the school library quickly turned emotional as teammates, family, relatives and coaches all stood up in front of a crowd topping 50 and shared their memories and hopes for the Lady Irish’s third baseman. After coach Tommy Castanedo finished calling Tyler the rock of the team, her teammates broke into tears as they called her things like a role model, a team mom and a reliable friend.

“I’m an emotional person so I knew there were going to be some tears,” she said. “It always means so much more when you actually hear it — it’s different when you hear it from adults rather than your teammates.”
